Per? and polyfluoroalkyl substance removal in carbon?based advanced treatment for potable reuse

چکیده

The persistence of perfluoroalkyl acids (PFAAs) in wastewater effluent highlights the need for active monitoring and targeted removal these compounds potable reuse applications. City Altamonte Springs' permanent demonstration facility, pureALTA, employs a carbon-based advanced treatment process using multiple barriers to provide water that meets state federal regulatory requirements health guidelines unregulated contaminants. combination ozonation, biological activated carbon filtration (BAC), ultrafiltration (UF), granular adsorption (GAC), UV oxidation (UV AOP) showed complete long-chain PFAAs (perfluoroalkyl sulfonic with ?6 carbons carboxylic ?7 carbons) guidelines, such as perfluorooctanoic acid perfluorooctane sulfonate treated while maintaining total organic (TOC) levels below 3 mg/L, limit Florida indirect reuse. Ozone, BAC, UF increases varying based on transformation precursors. GAC was critical both TOC PFAA removal; anticipated media's age defined extent short-chain perfluoropentanoic perfluorohexanoic acid. Because limits projects absence regulations PFAAs, continues dictate media change-out frequency operating cost. However, performance control strategy at pureALTA may change if stringent are set future. As May 2021, has been operation more than 4 years operate, providing an opportunity continued research community engagement. Article Impact Statement study represents first pilot-scale evaluation correlation Florida.

Concerns about Direct Potable Reuse

According to Dahl (2014), water shortages in parts of the United States are so dire that attitudes toward wastewater reuse, including direct injection into drinking water, are becoming more favorable. He noted 12 locations nationwide that directly or in directly blend highly treated wastewater with potable supplies, with more projects planned. California’s ongoing crisis-level drought has convi...

Effect of anions interaction on the removal efficiency of nanofilters for the potable water treatment

The interaction between the ions and the charge of membranes can affect the efficiency of pollutant removal. The present study investigated the removal efficiency of hexavalent chromium and nitrate ions from both actual and synthetic contaminated water via two different commercial spiral wound polyamide nanofilters. In addition, the interaction of ions under different experimental conditions wa...

Advanced Oxidation Process for Haloacetic Acid Removal in Tehranpars Water Treatment Using CuO Nanocatalyst

Potentially harmful disinfection byproducts (DBPs), as a significant challenge in water treatment, are formed when oxidizing disinfectants react with natural organic matters (NOM). Unfortunately, an  unwanted  side  effect  is  the  formation  of  harmful by-products,  such  as  THMs  and  HAAs, following the chlorination stage. DBPs  cause a variety of diseases like cancer in humans.  In this ...

Removal of phages and viral pathogens in a full-scale MBR: Implications for wastewater reuse and potable water.

The aim of this study was to demonstrate how seasonal variability in the removal efficacy of enteric viral pathogens from an MBR-based water recycling system might affect risks to human health if the treated product were to be used for the augmentation of potable water supplies. Samples were taken over a twelve month period (March 2014-February 2015), from nine locations throughout a water recy...
